There are two main themes surrounding any Loudon Road Race Series weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Motorcycles is the obvious one, but from the moment the first rider arrives in the garage on Thursday to the moment the last rider rolls out of the tunnel on Sunday evening, the weekend is about family. Round four was no different.

"It's definitely a family sport," said Scott Greenwood, who took seven checkered flags this weekend. "I've been here a long time, so all the kids have grown up here. It's really cool to race with Sam in every race. We're back and forth on the track, and I try to help him improve, which keeps me motivated to keep trying as well."

The Greenwoods have been a fixture at LRRS weekends since 1991 when Scott began racing at age 18 behind his older brother Bill. Now 46, the former track champion and father of three, enjoys race weekends with 21-year-old son Sam, who races in the Expert class alongside him, and four-year-old Greyson, who's chomping at the bit to start racing like his dad and big brother.

"Greyson is on his strider bike every five minutes with his helmet and gloves on," laughed Greenwood. "I imagine I might be here a little longer."

Riders reach speeds of nearly 150 mph along the frontstretch, and one slight mistake or mechanical error, can cause an exciting race to change into terrifying moments in an instant. For father/son riders Jeff and Jake Vader, the LRRS family has been more than a group of fellow riders, but a family support system, more than once.

"Because of Jake's aggressive, want to go faster nature, he's been down a few times," said Jeff Vader. "The support is absolutely amazing, and I see it every race weekend. I've shared in it, I've seen people jumping in to help with trailer packing and everything else and even checking on him when he's hurt. It's just a great family."

Sometimes it's being that shoulder to lean on in intense moments, and sometimes it's smaller things like helping a rider stay cool, hydrated and letting him relax in preparation for his next race that makes all the difference. Alex Guilbeault, expert rider No. 32 who works full time at the speedway, battled extreme exhaustion on Saturday only to bounce back on Sunday with a career best lap time of 1:13.384 in the Expert Middleweight Superbike, only 0.138 seconds behind Scott Greenwood's best lap time that race.

"I try to stay hydrated, but working long days out in the heat all day finally took its toll on me," said Guilbeault. "I'm feeling ten times better today. I've got fluids in me, a good night's sleep, some good food, enjoyed the air conditioning and slept in my own bed last night, which certainly made a difference. Having my family at the race track is like having the comforts of being at home. They pick me up on the bad days, celebrate with me on the good days and allow me to live the life I love."
