In the spirit of Earth Day, New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) staff members enjoyed a morning of community service and team building Tuesday for the fifth annual Speedway Cares Day in Loudon, N.H., hometown to “The Magic Mile.” The team spent a combined total of 78.75 hours sprucing up Robert L. Landry Sr. Memorial Field by trimming branches, clearing brush, weed whacking, raking and aerating lawns, prepping infield bases and runways, painting fence lines and more to get the field ready for Loudon Youth Baseball Program’s 2025 season, which kicks off this Saturday.

“Our President and CEO Marcus Smith talks a lot about how giving back to the communities in which our speedways are located is very important,” said New Hampshire Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager David McGrath. “Certainly, we know we’re the noisy neighbor up on 106, and we also understand the importance of being good stewards to the neighborhoods and good stewards of the town, and seeing the team come out and really roll up their sleeves and get busy working really hard for the town is a great day.”

Robert L. Landry Sr. Memorial Field, which was dedicated to Landry when he passed away in 2005 to honor his longtime commitment to youth baseball in Loudon, holds a special place in one NHMS employee’s heart. Landry’s daughter and lifetime Loudon resident, Robbin, serves as a Senior Account Executive for NHMS and jumped at the chance to join her fellow NHMS teammates to clean up the field where her dad spent countless hours teaching young local athletes the game of baseball.

“He loved baseball,” said Landry, who’s worked at NHMS since 2008. “It was pretty special to have my speedway family come and help clean it up and get it ready for Little League.”

Since its inception in 2018, Speedway Cares Day has contributed more than 500 collective hours of community service to the town of Loudon and become an important day of community service and team building for the NHMS team. Past Speedway Cares Day projects include:

  • 2018: Cleaning up the recreation field and prepping the baseball fields and dugouts for the Loudon Youth Baseball Program
  • 2019: Trimming bushes, raking and aerating lawns, cleaning mulch beds, spreading new mulch, sweeping parking lots and walkways, repairing fences and gates and cleaning a playground at seven different locations in Loudon
  • 2021: Scraping, painting and restoring more than 250 feet of fence at Loudon’s oldest town cemetery
  • 2022: Chopping trees, clearing brush and raking leaves to clear out the expansion area at Loudon’s Moore Cemetery

“It’s very, very important,” said Loudon, N.H. Road Agent Russ Pearl of Speedway Cares Day. “I’m sure all the town residents appreciate everything you guys do, and I look forward to it every year.”
