With the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series weekend less than three weeks away, New Hampshire Motor Speedway hosted media on Friday for a little taste of what's to come. Media members from across New England took part in the second annual Media Racing Challenge, and it was Brian Bell of the Wicked Fast Podcast on WROR/105.7 in Boston, Mass. that took home the win.
"Thanks to everybody at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and all of the great media competitors who came out for the Media Racing Challenge," said Bell. "What better way to get ready for the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301? I'm really proud to bring the trophy back to the Loren and Wally Show at WROR. Timmy G and I host the Wicked Fast Podcast, where we talk NASCAR every week, and now, not only do we talk the talk, but we walked the walk. We are wicked fast!"
The Media Racing Challenge winner was determined by their fastest lap time on the track, while the five fastest media members to change a tire on the NHMS show car received a 10-second deduction from their best lap time.
Timmy Gorham, also of the Wicked Fast Podcast on WROR/105.7 was the fastest media member around the track at 40.53 seconds, while Tom Giles (NBC Sports Boston), Brian Bell, Sean McDonald (New Hampshire Chronicle on WMUR TV) and Zack Derby (WLKZ The Hawk/104.9) rounded out the top five.
JR Russell of WJYY/105.5, WFNQ Frank FM/106.3, WNNH Frank FM/99.1 and WNHW The Wolf/ 93.3 was the quickest in the tire change competition, completing it in 32.80 seconds. Zack Derby, Brian Bell, Sean McDonald and Liz Frantz (Concord Monitor) rounded out the top five, with all of them earning a 10-second deduction from their fastest lap time.
Once all the times from both parts of the competition were calculated together and the deductions were taken into account, Brian Bell came out on top with Sean McDonald, Zack Derby, JR Russell and Timmy Gorham rounding out the top five.
The media members also sampled a Taste of the Speedways, featuring a few food items from other Speedway Motorsports tracks that will be available for purchase during race weekend. The food items included the Throw Back Double Cheeseburger and the Racing Hot Chicken Sandwich, both from Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese "Poutine" from Bristol Motor Speedway, Lobster Mac and Cheese from right here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and from the healthy menu, the Smoked Chicken "Caesar" Kale Salad.
