Dugouts and benches needed painting, bushes needed trimming, the field needed overall sprucing, and the staff of New Hampshire Motor Speedway came to the rescue with Speedway Cares Day on Wednesday, May 2.
The Loudon Youth Athletic Association's (LYAA) Opening Day for the Loudon Youth Baseball Program was Saturday, April 28, and over 40 NHMS staff members have made sure the diamond at 55 South Village Road is ready for the rest of the season.
"We have a wonderful team here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and it's important to all of us to be good neighbors and give back to our home in Loudon," said David McGrath, executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway. "Speedway Cares Day is something I wanted to establish to bring my team together to help the community."
It's a well-known fact that New Hampshire winters are brutal and take a toll on recreational fields and equipment. Towns rely on volunteers to give their time to help get the fields ready for the season.
"I was delighted to get the email from New Hampshire Motor Speedway asking what they could do to help," said Alicia Grimaldi, Loudon recreation committee member. "It's always a task making sure the fields are ready for the kids, especially when the weather isn't quite done with winter, but thankfully the NHMS team made it happen!"
According to the LYAA's Facebook page, the LYAA is a volunteer membership-driven non-profit organization committed to helping the children of the Loudon, N.H. community to excel in life through the promotion of athletic competition. If you're interested in helping out or learning more, feel free to attend one of their meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Maxfield Public Library at 7:00 p.m.
