New Hampshire Motor Speedway is the latest granite state company to proudly raise a flag to our state's military members by signing a Statement of Support from the New Hampshire Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on Monday, March 12.

The Department of Defense, through the ESGR, asks companies throughout the state to sign and display this formal statement, first signed by the Secretary of Defense, supporting current or future Guard and Reserve employees, as well as recognizing veteran employees.

"We've got all branches of the military represented by the New Hampshire Motor Speedway team and their family members," said David McGrath, New Hampshire Motor Speedway's executive vice president and general manager. "To join a group of New Hampshire businesses who are standing up to support our state's military is a no-brainer, and we're proudly behind those who sacrifice so much when they make the decision to serve our community, our state and our country in the armed forces."

The ESGR, a Department of Defense agency, seeks to promote a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees. ESGR advocates for the Guard and Reserve employees and their families, recognize and thank supportive employers, inform all parties about the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Right Act and mediate when issues arise. In addition, ESGR provides employment coordination through the Employment Support Program.

"Today, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation's Guard and Reserve units, which make up as much as 45% of our military capabilities," said Bruce Thompson, ESGR state chair. "I am very pleased that the New Hampshire Motor Speedway is standing up to support our state's guard and Reserve members and units."

Full Statement of Support reads as follows:
"We recognize the Guard and Reserve are essential to the strength of our Nation and the well-being of our communities.

In the highest American tradition, the patriotic men and women of the Guard and Reserve serve voluntarily in an honorable and vital profession. They train to respond to their community and their country in time of need. They deserve the support of every segment of our society.

If these volunteer forces are to continue to serve our Nation, increased public understanding is required of the essential role of the Guard and Reserve in preserving our national security.

Therefore, we join other employers in pledging that:

  • We fully recognize, honor and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
  • We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  • We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills Service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to employ Guardsmen, Reservists, transitioning Service members and Veterans.
  • We will continually recognize and support our country's Service members and their families in peace, in crisis and in war."
